Lesson 169 - TWO SPIRITS, TWO ROADS, TWO VOICES (PART 1)
Two spirits want to control your life—the Holy Spirit and the evil spirit called Satan. Two roads call for your attention—one narrow that leads to life and the other wide that leads to death. You make the choice as to which way you will travel...

No human science can begin to penetrate the awesome marvel of the human brain. Your mind is a masterpiece of the Creator. No wonder there is a war going on for control of your mind.

Two spirits want to control your life—the Holy Spirit and the evil spirit called Satan. Two roads call for your attention—one narrow that leads to life and the other wide that leads to death. Two voices reach out for your heart and mind—the Spirit of God with pure instructions from heaven and the voice of Satan that can be subtle and appealing.

You make the choice as to which way you will travel—the way of the world or the way of God. This lesson points out the contrast in God’s view versus that of the world. The scriptures given are so important that I have memorized most of them. I challenge you to do the same. This study will come in two parts.

1.  View of controlling thoughts (Arrogance versus humility)

       Man’s Way Revelation 3:14-17

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, these things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.”

       VERSUS

       God’s Way  Romans 12:1,2

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living  sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

2.   View of what constitutes loving God (Words from the mouth versus actions from the heart)

         Man’s Way Matthew 7:21-23,26,27

“Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

VERSUS

          God’s Way John 14:21; Matthew 7:24,25

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”

3.   View of time (Man’s way "My time is my own!" versus God’s way "My time is God's!”)

        Man’s Way James 4:13-15

“Come now, you who say, today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

         VERSUS

         God’s Way I Corinthians 7:29-31

But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.”

4.   View of motivational drive ("Me first" versus "God first")

         Man’s Way Matthew 6:31,32

“Therefore do not worry, saying, what shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or what shall we wear?  For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”

         VERSUS

          God’s Way Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

5.   View of use of the tongue (Controlled by Satan versus controlled by the Holy Spirit)

        Man’s Way James 3:5

“Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!”

         VERSUS

        God’s Way Psalm 19:14

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lordmy strength and my Redeemer.”
