GROWING UP IN HIM (CHRIST JESUS)
Republished From http://www.PFCCSite.org
If you are going to mature or develop in Christ Jesus you will have to be rooted and built up in His Word. In this lesson, Dr. Brodie teaches on maturing and operating in your Christian walk, so you can develop spiritually.

Spiritual Growth Comes From The Word

As a believer it is amazing to see and hear how long, some Saints have been in church, but have not developed in their spirituality. I have learned by experience that just because a person has been attending a church for a long time that does not make them mature or developed in Christ. They may be going to a church that has a musical environment and the people are focusing on the choir more than the Word of God and this hinders their spiritual growth. The music is fine and we all as Christians should praise and worship God, however that is not going to develop you into being a mature Christian. The only thing that will develop you is the Word of God and I know that is why so many believers are not maturing and operating in their Christian walk as they should be. What is needed is the "taught" Word and how to apply it in their lives, In 1 Peter 2:2 "as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby." The Bible makes it very clear that we should desire the pure milk of the Word" Why? So that you may grow thereby! That means the way you grow in the Word is by the pure milk of the Word. If a Pastor wants his flock to grow and become mature in Christ Jesus he must give them the pure or uncompromised Word of God so that they can be developed. Can you see that? That's why I make sure that the people in the church that I pastor over, always receive the Word of God. By doing this, now many of them can believe God for great things in their lives and in the lives of their families. Saints, our people are on fire for God and believing God to do some great things in their life. In Acts 20:32 "So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Notice the verse said God and His Word is what builds us up, not dancing and shouting or running around the church. Can you see that? You need some WORD in your life. For example, in society any citizen of this country has what is called civil rights. If any of their rights are violated it can hinder the person from advancing in the society. Likewise when a person joins a church they are members of that society and if the Word is not going forth it hinders them from advancing or developing in their Christianity. It should be a crime to hinder the believers rights in the most important thing in their lives. The Word of God is the thing that will determine how they live their life here on earth and if they go to heaven. Again, the same way people are prosecuted for violating people's civil rights they should be prosecuted for violating their spiritual rights when they fail to teach them the Word of God, appropriately.

We Are Born of The Word

In 1 Peter 1:23 "having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever." The Bible makes it clear that the way we are born again is by God's Word. Saints we were born again when we heard and received someone preaching the gospel or Word to us. That is why in Romans 10:14 "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" Saints when we heard the Word preached that is when we received it and was born again and our life began to change we became a new creature in Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things (of our recreated spirit) have become new." Not all things in the natural become new, for example, if 1 weighed 200 pounds at 11:59 and was bald headed, and I got saved at 12 Midnight, at 12:01 I would still be 200 pounds and bald headed. My physical appearance would not change, only my new created spirit. Can you see that? I hope you can so that you can clearly understand what God is talking about. We grow up by speaking and hearing the Word. Saints, we must understand if we are ever going to grow up spiritually we must follow the direction that God gives His people through the Bible. If we do not follow the instructions we will never mature into all the things in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 4:15 "but, speaking the truth (the Word) in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-- Christ" John 17:17 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." So that in love we may grow up in all things into Him (Jesus) who is the head of the Church. One of the ways I develop is to speak God's Word in love. I do not have to try and put people down because they may be struggling with a certain problem in their life. I can address the problem by speaking the truth or what the Word says about it in love and the Holy Spirit will convict the person's heart and he or she will repent and develop more into the image of Christ Jesus by handling the situation in a Godly manner. Can you see that? In John 8:3-11 "Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say? This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first. And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman. He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more." Jesus showed mercy on the woman caught in adultery; however, He did not compromise the truth He told her go her way and sin no more. He spoke the truth of the Word in love. Saints, we should always be willing to have mercy on the Saints that have backslidden. We should just pray for them that they return to Christ by being Godly and repent from their evil ways.

Without Love We Can Not Grow

Saints, if the believers are not practicing love, they will never grow up into Christ Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 "And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?" Paul was saying they could not grow any further and he could not talk to them about spiritual things because of their lack of love for each other. They operated in envy, strife and division and they could not grow or mature spiritually. Saints without love you will never develop or see the power of God manifest in your life. 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Saints love will cause you to grow spiritually and it causes your faith to work. Galatians 5:6 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love," If you do not grow up and develop in the Word you will never walk in love. Always remember that God is love and He always expects His children to imitate Him by walking in Love. In Ephesians 5:1-2 "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma," Saints you will never grow up and imitate God if you do not speak the truth in love.

In conclusion, if you are going to develop or mature in your Christianity, you must be taught the Word of God so that you can grow by operating in it. The way we begin to develop is to start speaking the truth or the Word in love, however, the reason why so many believers cannot grow up is because they have not been really taught God's Word so they cannot begin to speak it or act on it. Because of this they do not grow up spiritually and all their life, although they are saved, they are like the carnal Christians Paul talked about in 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 "And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?" Nevertheless, I hope you can see that if you are going to mature or develop in Christ Jesus you will have to be rooted and built up in His Word.

God Bless You,
