In order to have a proper foundation in studying the Word of God, it is important to realize and understand that we are all builders and we are all being built. This principle applies to both saints and sinners, believers and non believers. Acts 4:11-12. Romans 15:20. 1st Corinthians 3:12. Galatians 2:18

Many times, we allow our assumptions and prejudice to influence our study and understanding of God and His word. The Apostle Paul along with many of the religious leaders of the day fell into this error. As a result they misinterpreted the nature of God and the timing and purpose of God. Their assumptions caused them to  miss the coming of the Messiah Jesus. As a result, they persecuted those who embraced and chose to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord. Because even though they knew the scriptures they did not understand it's meaning and intent.
1st Timothy 1:13-14.

QUESTIONS 1: God is building something.
What is it that he is building....you.
Hebrews 3:4 God is the builder of everything
1st Peter 2:4-7. "Lively Stones".

God is building me into a house.
1st Corinthians 3:16."Know ye not that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit?"

QUESTION 2: When we read Colossians 2:7 what are the two things that God is doing through the Holy Spirit in our lives? "Rooting" and "Building up!'

QUESTION 3: Why is it so important to have strong deep roots? What is being built will be able to stand the test of time, adversity and wear. Deep roots mean big things.

QUESTION 4: Why are we seeing so many well known, high profile pastors and leaders falling into sin and destruction in the last few years?

A. Their ministry did not have a root system based in the Word of God. They had big things but small roots.

B. Their personal faith was not rooted in Jesus Christ. Their personal root system was shallow.

C. They started to build the wrong things onto their foundation. They stopped building precious stones and started adding wood, hay and stubble to their foundation.

D. They became a castaway while preaching to others...Paul warns us about this in 1st Corinthians 9:27.

E.  They did not grow in the "Fruit of the Spirit." They focused on function not fellowship. They invited others to take up residence in the Temple ie. (Idolatry)

This is a common problem when we forget or do not understand the nature and character of God in Christ and use scripture for private interpretation.
