Overcoming Perilous Financial Times - 2 Timothy 3:1; John 10:10

Several years ago, The Lord gave me an assignment and an anointing to help His people to prosper financially, by helping them to believe His Word and follow His Spirit.  This current economic downturn has truly rocked our nation and has even had an effect on the body of Christ.   However our God is not moved by this financial downturn or any other crisis for that matter.  This has not taken Him by surprise.  He is not calling for cabinet meetings with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the arch angels our economy. No, God has already put in place answers, assignments and anointings to reveal His plan and power to His people and to the world; if we will listen. In 2009 the Lord

When I wrote this book in 2009, the unemployment figures were 8.4%.  Here in California unemployment was over 10.5%.  At that time, we were in what was considered to be a crisis.  Today, unemployment is 9.2% nationally and 12.3% in California, yet they say we are no longer in a recession.  If you would like to understand better how we got into this situation and how close to a total economic collapse that our nation came, you need to purchase and read my book.

        I.            Two Biblical Words for Recession or Economic Downturns:

A.      The first word that the Bible uses is DROUGHT.  Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines this word as a chronic or prolonged shortage or lack of something desired;

B.      The second and more familiar word that the Bible uses is FAMINE.  Webster's Collegiate Dictionary says: the word famine means a great shortage or an extreme scarcity of food.  A recession is a period of reduced economic activity and economics refers to the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.  Obviously food would be considered as "goods".

So, when there is an extreme scarcity of food, there is an extreme scarcity of the production, distribution and consumption of this good, which supplies everything else.  In today's verbiage, both a famine and a drought would result in reduced or low economic activity, or a recession. So a famine is a recession.

      II.            Two Powerful Promises from God regarding famines, Recessions or Economic Downturns

A.      Psalms 37:18-19 - God promises to SATISFY the upright (those who walk in a consistent manner with His Word) continually in famine or recession.

B.      Isaiah 58:11 - In a drought you will be like a WELL WATERED GARDEN.

   III.            Three Scriptural ways that the Lord takes care of His people in recession:

A.      FAVOR:  The Lord will give you favor with those who have money in the midst of a famine or recession - Genesis 12:10; 13:1-2; Gal. 3:13-14;

B.      PROSPERITY:   The Lord will prosper you right where you are when no one else is prospering because of the recession - Genesis 26:1-6; 13.

C.      MONEY:  The Lord will prosper you enough so that you have money to get what you need from whoever has it, not matter how far you have to send off to get it.  Genesis 41:46, 53 - 42:1-2

    IV.            God has Rivers of Prosperity for those who will obey Him - Isaiah 43:19-20; Isaiah 48:12-18 (NKJV) The Amplified Bible says it this way:

18Oh, that you had hearkened to My commandments! Then your peace and prosperity would have been like a flowing river, and your righteousness [the holiness and purity of the nation] like the [abundant] waves of the sea. Isaiah 48:18 (Amplified Bible)

Peace Defined:  Shalom:  1) completeness, soundness, welfare, peace 1a) completeness (in number) 1b) safety, soundness (in body) 1c) welfare, health, prosperity.  He is talking about profit.  The point that God is addressing is material profit or MATERIAL prosperity.

A.      First, notice three words: LISTEN (vs.12), HEAR (vss.14&16) and the word HEEDED (vs.18).   If you & I are going to tap into God's River of Prosperity, we must listen to or pay attention to what God has to say.  God points out to us in vs.13 that everything else that He has made pays attention to Him when He speaks!  All of creation snaps to attention when He calls, except for some people.

B.      The second thing that we must see is that God is speaking to two representative groups of people in these verses.

1.       The first group is represented by "JACOB".

a.       The name Jacob means ....

b.       Jacob represents God's called covenant people who have a prophetic promise that God's blessing will be on them, but who are still trying to do it their way, so they will remain in God's school of obedience training.

2.       The second group is represented by "ISRAEL".

a.       Israel means "prince with God"

b.        Israel is the name that God gave him after their wrestling match.

c.         Jacob wrestled with an angel.    Genesis 32:24-28.

3.       I must also point out to you that here in Isaiah 48:17, God says that He is the Lord our God, who teaches us to profit!  According to Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, the word profit means:  1. A valuable returngain;   2. The excess of returns over expenditure in a transaction or series of transactionsthe excess of the selling price of goods over their cost; 3. The net income for a given period of time; 4. The compensation accruing to entrepreneurs for the assumption of risk in business enterprise.

a.       God is a business person.  He is interested in His people obtaining a return or gaining.

b.       God wants His people to receive compensation in life.  In Genesis 14.   After Abraham had done this, God showed up and told Abraham that because he had just tithed to Melchizedek, that He would be his, "...Fast Increase Money Compensator".

c.        God wants to be your Fast Increase Money Compensator.  Notice that Isaiah 66:12 says here:  "I am the LORD that teaches you to profit".  God wants to teach you how to profit.

d.       2 Corinthians 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

e.        Isaiah 1:19, which reads in the Living Bible, "If you will only let me help you, if you will only obey, then I will make you rich!"
